What Month Is It?
January flew by, and it’s hard to believe February is already here. The painting plans I had kind of stalled—there’s a lot I can blame it on: work, the kids, just not enough hours in the day. But the truth is, I haven’t quite found a balance for everything yet.
Being a mom takes up most of my time. I love my kids so much, but sometimes it feels like fitting in the painting I want to do while also being there for them—especially when it’s snack time... again and again—seems impossible.
I’d love some advice on how others juggle it all!
Now that a new month has started, I’ve got some fresh goals that hopefully feel a bit more achievable. A while ago, I started a small portrait journal with the goal of filling every page. I stumbled across it again recently while desperately searching for something for Lily to draw on while I was on the phone. The journal’s a bit of a mess—scribbles and a page smeared with playdough—but I want to give it another go.
It’s a great way to practice, especially in between commissions!
I’m still planning to practice event painting, too. But that’ll have to wait for those rare days when I can squeeze in some extra time without distractions.
January is behind me, but I need a reminder not to be too hard on myself. The year’s just getting started!
