Three Days of Chalk, Community, and Creativity

Recently I spent three days in a whirlwind of color, creativity, and chalk-covered fingers! I had the joy of spending three full days drawing on the pavement, surrounded by talented artists, friendly faces, and the warm buzz of community.

🎨 Day One: Zeeland Chalk Fest

June 12th kicked off the fun at the Zeeland Chalk Fest, where I had just one day to complete a 6ft by 6ft chalk drawing directly on the ground. It’s always a fun challenge to create something bold and vibrant within such a tight window, but the energy of the crowd and the beautiful weather made it an incredible day. There’s something special about transforming a sidewalk into a canvas, even if just for a short time.

🖌️ Days Two & Three: West Michigan Chalk Art Festival

After Zeeland, I headed straight into the West Michigan Chalk Art Festival, a two-day event packed with some seriously inspiring artists. This one is a competition, and the level of work people brought to the pavement was amazing. I was honored (and thrilled!) to win 4th place in the adult category!

But what truly made the experience unforgettable was getting to share it with my niece, who entered the youth category—and also took home 4th place! Watching her create, learn, and shine alongside so many talented young artists was such a proud moment for me. These festivals aren’t just about the art—they’re about the people, the stories, and the memories we make along the way.

💬 Final Thoughts

I’m beyond grateful for this chalk-filled time— aching body and all. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat, compliment, and cheer us on. I’m already looking forward to the next one!
